Anchoring the Past to the Present
The Carteret County Historical Society has proudly operated the History Museum of Carteret County and has been the corner stone of a number of societies in Carteret County. We are extremely proud of the contribution our professional staff and exceptionally dedicated volunteers have made in preserving the history that is Carteret County.
Located in the heart of historic Carteret County, across from the railroad station in Morehead City, The History Museum is a fantastic place to safely visit in this unique period we are in. Our rooms are spacious and allow for wide distancing between visitors enjoying our unique and county-focused exhibits.
The History Museum houses an extensive collection of textiles, period clothing, furniture, military memorabilia, glassware, and artwork representing Carteret County residents.
The library has more than 10,000 books, publications and an wide-ranging photographic and image portfolio documenting the history of Carteret County.
We have an impressive Suffrage exhibit celebrating the 100th anniversary of passing the 19th Amendment. Bring your daughters to learn about their Grandmothers and Great Grandmothers struggle to get the vote.
